Well, we’re over halfway through the first month of 2019 and we have no idea where that’s gone! The first quarter of this month (before we went back to work, which all came around too quickly) was spent relaxing, working on the house, eating far too much, drinking a few too many champagnes, enjoying lots of sunshine and reflecting on what has been an incredible 2018. I know we said last year was the best year ever, but this year was even better so, we have followed our tradition of putting together our favourite highlights from 2018. We are forever grateful for our family, our friends and being able to live this amazing life we lead.
2018 started off for us spending summer in Kuratau – our happy place. We boated, swam, ate, drank, skied and relaxed in our slice of absolute paradise. HOW LUCKY!
We went on our annual Blackwood family adventure – Quad biking in Kapiti. This was so much fun, we went through some epic mud and I only managed to crash once…
We attended WOMAD here in New Plymouth. It is such a spectacular 3-day international festival that brings together artists from all over the globe to celebrate the world’s music, arts and dance. Would 10/10 recommend!
For Easter, we spent the long weekend in Kuratau with our families. We had the most incredible weather and it was such a pleasure showing some of Luke’s family our slice of paradise.
I had TWO incredible weekends put on for me by my beautiful family and friends celebrating my Kitchen Tea and Hens Party. Thank you again to my wonderful mum, Fiona (mum 2), my beautiful bridesmaids Sara & Kristina and of course my world class maid of honour Laura – you are all beyond AMAZING!
Luke and a few of his lads celebrated his Stag do in Auckland on a launch touring around the Auckland Harbour and Waiheke Island. From what Luke remembers he had a bloody good time!
The reno this year has been quite the priority however we probably wouldn’t recommend renovating a kitchen, dining and laundry whilst cooking with only a microwave and living on casserole for 3 months and trying to plan a wedding. Over the past year, we have definitely learnt that things take twice as long as you think, cost twice as much and we’ve just accepted that we do everything twice as the first time is always a disaster. This year we have done:
- New doors & handles throughout the house – sounds straight forward I know… however would recommend buying new if you have an old house and want to save 100 hours of personal labour and frustration
- Polished up the hallway floorboards
- New dining room
- New Kitchen (Thanks to Elite Kitchens – we LOVE it)
- New laundry
- New fence – we are no longer a fishbowl
- Finished another bedroom
Of course, there’s the time we spend in our beautiful backyard. As everyone knows we LOVE living in Taranaki and think we are pretty bloody lucky to call this paradise home. Amazing sunsets, after work swims, beautiful walks and epic picnics – what more?
WE GOT MARRIED!
This was undoubtedly the best two weeks EVER. Our special day reflected everything about Luke & I and was absolutely perfect in so many ways. It was intimate, special, relaxed and so much fun! Our wedding day for us was about celebrating with our closest friends and family whilst on holiday in Fiji, not only for a day but for a whole week. We had the best time with everyone, felt so at ease and relaxed as nearly everything was taken care of. Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa was absolutely fabulous, they looked after us so well and the day ran like absolute clockwork. Thank you to everyone.
We are so beyond grateful to everyone who made such an effort to make it over there and celebrate our special day with us and wouldn’t have changed a thing.
Following on from our week with our friends and family, Luke and I escaped to Tokoriki Island Resort for our honeymoon. It was such a special time to relax, reflect and appreciate such an incredible week. Needless to say, Tokoriki, we will definitely be back – the service, villa’s & gardens were world class, thank you!
We spent a weekend in Christchurch with some of Luke’s family where we finally got to meet our beautiful baby niece, Chloe. #clucky
We had an amazing Christmas with the Blackwood family in Kuratau. A low key day with family, yummy food, lots of wine & games.
So there you have it our 2019 highlights. What a year! Thank you to everyone who has been a part of it and made it such a fabulous and special year to remember – we are so very very lucky.
We haven’t set any new year resolutions as such as between us we have the attention span of a goldfish however we have set a few goals;
- Work hard & save some moola to do fun stuff
- Play harder (with the hard-earned moola)
- Spend time with special people in our lives
- Finish our house reno
- Focus on a balanced lifestyle
- Be present and;
- Have an attitude of gratitude for everyone and everything!
So cheers to a bloody superb 2018 and here’s to another fabulous year – 2019 bring it on!
Love Mr & Mrs Roozendaal
